Trail - excursion near Havana
Hemingway
spent many years in Cuba and became well known in many of the
Havana bars and for his fishing exploits. He was well loved by
many Cubans, and his skipper, Gregorio Fuentes, died recently
in havana aged 103. We were fortunate enough to be invited to
his 102nd birthday party in Cojimar. Our tour recalls the sights
and memories of the great author's life in Havana.
We start
by visiting the famous bar, El Floridita, in old Havana, where
Hemingway used to frequent and even invented a special Daiquiri
cocktail. Then we visit the bedroom that he stayed in the Ambos
Mundos hotel for 3 years which is now a shrine to him. Afterwards,
we drive to his country house, Finca Vigia, on the edge of the
city and head to the fishing village of Cojimar where we enjoy
a seafood meal in the famous restaurant overlooking the estuary
which was patronized by the author and his skipper.
The
private tour is with a bilingual guide and we travel in an air-conditioned
mini-bus or taxi. Minimum 2 people.
PRICE: US$75 or UK£55 including transport, guide, all entry charges and lunch.
